Wow!

The school year has started well!  We always expect a few tears, but after that the mornings have been going well.  We have been focusing on showing the children how to take work from the shelves (take the entire material - not just part of it), how to do the work and replacing the work properly.  These lessons will continue throughout September so that every child will know how to function well in the class.  We have also been talking about manners.  All Montessori classes stress manners and we are starting with these lessons right away.  You will notice that we try to greet each child with a handshake and friendly greeting - this is part of those lessons.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays we have music with Mrs. Mechling.  The music class starts promptly at 8:30 and lasts only 15 minutes.  So please try to have your child to school on time on music days.

The mornings have been a bit cool and many children are bringing coats to school.  It is so important that you put your child's name in the coat.  A favorite method is to simply write the child's name on a piece of masking tape and then sticking it inside the coat.  We have already had some confusion with the coats, and your help would be appreciated.

Some of you have asked what activities you should be doing at home to reinforce what is happening at school.  First, let your child be independent.  Let him/her put on his/her own coat.  Let him/her carry the book bag.  Second, read to your child.  Reading is the most important thing that can help your child be successful in school.  Speaking of reading...

A Scholastic book order is being sent home with your child.  Scholastic offers great books at a great price.  With each book you buy, we get points that go toward free books for our class.  So, we appreciate your purchase!  However, it is not required!  Thanks to Toni Eaton (2-Day class, Reed's mom) for coordinating this.

As always, please ask us if you have any questions.  We are honored that you have sent your children to our school.  We hope they have a wonderful start to their education!
